Thank you for your interest in the Mountain AHEC 4th Year medical student electives. We welcome and encourage 4th Year students who are interested in Family Medicine or Obstetrics & Gynecology and our residency programs to spend four weeks in Asheville.

Housing is available through MAHEC at a modest cost after confirmation of rotation.

Out-of-state students planning to apply to one of MAHEC's residency programs will receive highest priority for the months of October through January. These rotations are filled on a first-come, first-served basis and confirmed starting mid-April. Rotation requests for other blocks will be considered, but confirmation may be delayed until mid-June.

Please look over the course descriptions for Family Medicine and Obstetrics & Gynecology.

Due to limited space, MAHEC electives are only offered to students enrolled in accredited United States & Canadian medical schools.

1. Complete the online Fourth Year Medical Student Information Form
2. Request a letter from your registrar’s office that includes:
   • Student’s name
   • Statement that student is in good academic standing
   • Statement of student malpractice/liability insurance coverage
   • Student’s address
   • Year in school/ date of anticipated graduation
   • Course name and number (Course descriptions for Family Medicine or OB/Gyn.)
     
     Please request that the letter from your registrar’s office be mailed to:
