Applying to MAHEC's OB/GYN Residency Program
MAHEC accepts applications electronically through the ERAS program only. For consideration for selection, the following components of application are carefully considered and competitively weighed:
- Transcript and academic performance at a U.S. medical school
- Step 1 and 2 USMLE scores (no substitutions)
- Clinical experience (in the United States)
- Three letters of recommendation from those who have observed academic and clinical performance
- Dean's letter
- Community involvement and service
- Medical research and experience
- Work experience (medical and non-medical)

Salary and Benefits
The MAHEC Division of OB/GYN offers many of the same benefits found at other hospitals and medical centers.
Salary (2011-2012, subject to change)
- 1st year - $47,000
- 2nd year - $48,250
- 3rd year - $49,500
- 4th year - $52,500
Major benefits include:

- Resident Training License fee
- North Carolina Medical License fee
- DEA registration fee
- Cafeteria food stipend while working in hospital.
Educational funds:
- Travel and expenses to a scientific meeting in the third or fourth year
- Educational materials in the form of $300 each year for books, journal subscriptions or PDA software
Vacation
- First and second years (per year)two weeks
- Third and fourth years (per year) three weeks
Other
- Two white coats in the 1st and 3rd year with emblem and name tag
Licensure
Temporary or permanent North Carolina licensure must be held by each resident prior to beginning
training.
After the match results, a Resident's Training License application will be forwarded to the new
resident by the program.
Orientation
Orientation will begin mid June of each year.
A variety of activities are organized to allow residents to get acquainted with each other, the faculty,
and the staff of the MAHEC Division of OB/GYN.
First year residents are required to begin the program at the start of orientation with salary compensation.
