Didactics
Interns participate in the Wednesday afternoon didactic sessions in Hendersonville twice per month. These conferences cover a broad range of primary care topics including patient management, behavioral medicine, OB/GYN, community medicine and practice management. All of our learning sessions are interactive and 'hands on.' We have a state-of-the-art teleconference center in the Family Health Center and three times weekly residents can attend traditional lectures on topics in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and Cardiology. Residents are also encouraged to participate in hospital activities, including two Cancer Conferences per month, the Ethics Committee, and the local Medical Society which holds quarterly meetings at a local restaurant.
Call Schedule
In the first year, during the Asheville inpatient rotations only, call is taken from the hospital. Throughout your training, call is scheduled approximately one night per week and one weekend per month. All call taken in Hendersonville is taken primarily from home with hospital visits limited to admissions and unstable patients, much like what you will experience as a practicing physician. A family medicine attending serves as backup and makes rounds with the resident on a daily basis.
