of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. These programs provide the
ideal of the warmth of a community hospital with the resources for medical education of a
university medical center. Please note:

Dental Residency Program

The General Practice Residency (GPR) is a one year certificate program with an optional second year for two
residents. The program will begin accepting residents in July of 2007. The GPR program is sponsored by
Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) in partnership with Mission Hospitals. Requirements,

Family Medicine Residency Program-Asheville

The MAHEC Family Medicine Residency Program in Asheville offers a well rounded curriculum with many areas
of special interest including Community Oriented Primary Care, Behavioral Medicine, Maternity Care and
Women's Health, Sports Medicine, Geriatrics, Care for the Underserved, and Global Health. We are affiliated
with
Mission Hospitals, the regional referral center for

Family Medicine Residency Program-Hendersonville

The Hendersonville Family Medicine Residency Program is designed to train family doctors who would like to work as a
community-oriented physician in a small town or rural area. The curriculum is flexible allowing residents to work
closely with attendings and offers hands-on, individualized training. We are affiliated with
Margaret R. Pardee Memorial Hospital in Hendersonville, a small, vibrant community nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains

Geriatric Medicine Residency (Fellowship)

The MAHEC Division of Family Medicine sponsors a one-year residency in Geriatrics.
This community-based Fellowship leads to a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Geriatrics
through the Boards of Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.

Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program

The MAHEC OB/GYN residents are actively involved in all residency administrative functions, including
resident selection, curriculum development, evaluation, and faculty evaluation. Graduates are consulted for
input on program improvement in the OB/GYN four-year program. The MAHEC OB/GYN residency program is accepting applications electronically through the

Pharmacy Residency in Primary Care

Mission Hospitals, in collaboration with Mountain Area Health Education Center, offers a 12-month, ASHP-Accredited PGY1
Pharmacy Residency in Primary Care. The longitudinal curriculum focuses on providing care for patients with chronic
illnesses such as diabetes, osteoporosis, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and anticoagulation. Residents serve as
providers for patients enrolled in the nationally-recognized Asheville Project program. Core practice sites include
MAHEC Family Health Center; Mission Hospital's Health Education Center, Medication Assistance Program, and
Pharmacotherapy Clinic; and Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministries free clinic.
