Who We Are, Contact Us
Mountain Area Health Education Center’s (MAHEC) mission is to provide
education, information, training, and services to meet health needs in
Western North Carolina. As one of nine regional AHECs in North Carolina,
MAHEC links the educational institutions of the region and the state to
the healthcare delivery system. MAHEC provides a comprehensive array of
MAHEC’s Office of Regional Primary Care Education (ORPCE) is part
of a statewide program that facilitates community-based primary care
rotations for medical, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, and
pharmacy students from North Carolina programs. ORPCE’s responsibility
is to:
- Recruit community preceptors
- Provide support and faculty development to preceptors
- Schedule student rotations
- Arrange student housing during rotations
- Facilitate payments to eligible preceptor sites
- Assist in communication among preceptors, schools, and students.
The Preceptor Development Program was created by MAHEC’s Office of
Regional Primary Care Education in conjunction with several other MAHEC
departments. John P. Langlois, MD was the Project Director. Planning
committee members included Sarah Thach, MPH; Marianne Kaple, MEd; Sue
Stigleman, MLS; Cynthia Janes, PhD; Suzanne Landis, MD, MPH; Betsy
Hobkirk, MPH; Traci Riddle; Tom House; Diana Ramsay; and Bob Gingrich.
A HRSA Family Medicine Training Grant, #1D15PE50119-01, supported
development and dissemination of these materials.
