Preceptor Development Program (PDP)

Welcome Community Preceptors!

So, you’ve agreed to become a preceptor, to mentor a student in your office for a week or perhaps a month. You’ve received a packet of information from the course or program director. Now what do you do?

This program presents information to help you prepare for the student, polish skills in feedback and evaluation and develop methods of effective communication with the student. The materials are both relevant and easy-to-use and are intended for any practitioner who teaches in their office or hospital setting. The modules combine clinical examples and medical mnemonics to reinforce educational principles. These materials are available in an e-learning format through the MAHEC e-Learning System.

For quick tips and useful hints on integrating learners into your practice, visit the Strategies for a Busy Practice. See what others have said about their learning experiences in the section on Effective Precepting

In addition, we would like to hear from you. What strategies do you use for teaching? Perhaps you had an influential mentor during your own training. Submit your comments in Talk Back with Dr. PDP. If you want more information about teaching strategies or tools, investigate the Resources and Links.
