Preceptor Development Program (PDP)

MAHEC’s Community Primary Care Education office
created the Preceptor Development Program (PDP) in response to expressed
needs by preceptors. PDP was designed for community-based teachers of
residents, medical students, and other health profession students. With
the dramatic increase in community-based medical education, new methods
of faculty development were needed to train this large, often isolated,
and diverse part-time faculty.
The mission of this site is to provide preceptor
development and CME for community preceptors, to create an arena for
exchange of ideas and experiences, and to disseminate information and
program materials to persons involved with the development of such
programs.
The program contains seven sessions designed to help preceptors meet
the challenges of teaching and evaluating students in the community
setting. Lessons include such topics as setting expectations, giving
feedback and "one minute" precepting skills, as well as,
insight into teaching style preferences and ways to deal with difficult
situations. These materials are available in an
e-learning format through
the MAHEC e-Learning System.
HRSA Family Medicine Training Grant (#1D15PE50119-01)
supported development and dissemination of these materials.
