Dental Education Staff
Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) Department of Dental Education:
- Serves the education needs of dental healthcare providers (dentist, dental hygienists and dental assistants) in the 16-county MAHEC region
- Offers educational opportunities online, at MAHEC in Asheville, and by videoconference throughout the MAHEC service region
- Engages educational faculty from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry at Chapel Hill as well as local, state and national experts on various dental topics
- Provides basic/ required educational opportunities such as BLS, Minimal Oral Sedation, Dental OSHA, Dental Radiation Safety, SPICE training, Infection Control for the DA II, Medical Emergencies (the 6 hour course fulfills the NC requirement on Limited Supervision Dental Hygienists) and advanced/specific courses on requested "hot" topics in dentistry
- Coordinates with other NC AHECs to offer IOR training and Coronal Polishing training
- Is an approved provider of dental CE by the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) and the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB)
