Our department serves the Allied Health Professionals in the
sixteen Western North Carolina counties of Buncombe, Cherokee, Clay,
Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell,
Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania and Yancey. We are affiliated with
the Department of Medical Allied Health
Professions in the School of Medicine in the University of North Carolina
at Chapel Hill.
Our mission is to support the MAHEC mission of improving the quality,
geographic distribution and retention of healthcare professionals in
Western North Carolina by:
Providing high quality educational opportunities that are accessible to
all Allied Health Professionals.
Working with the Allied Health Care Professionals in the
region to enhance their professional skills and their leadership abilities
in management of all types-the quality delivered, management of their
service area, educating the public to practice healthier lifestyles, and
managing their own career for more job satisfaction.
Our department currently provides educational programs for Dietitians &
Nutritionists; Interpreters; Mammographers; Massage Therapists; Medical Records
Professionals; Medical Social Workers; Medical Technologists; Occupational Therapists;
Phlebotomists; Physical Therapists; Physical Therapists Assistants;
Public Health Social Workers; Radiologic Technologists; Recreation Therapists;
Respiratory Therapists; Sonographers; Speech Language Pathologists; and Sterile Processors.
